_The last time I stood inside the complex of drab communist-era buildings on Normannenstrasse, a riot erupted around me.That was mid-January 1990, when I was travelling through newly freed eastern Europe with the photographer Justin Leighton. We had heard that crowds were storming the Stasi headquarters in a cheerless suburb of East Berlin. By then, two months after the opening of the Wall, it was clear that the game was up. Communist dictatorships were collapsing one after another. Locals feared that East Germany’s ruling powers would try to destroy the files. As the crowd surged in we followed in their wake. The narrow corridors were strewn with documents and half-destroyed papers. The protesters were right — but the Stasi’s shredding machines had broken down.Run by Erich Mielke, a veteran communist, the Stasi was one of the most effective secret police forces in history. It recorded conversations, opinions, medical histories and, especially, any contact with foreigners, in millions of carefully numbered, classified files. It even archived the smells of dissidents. Probably not.So what can we do to avoid the Stasi in our pocket? Consider switching to a non-smart phone. Before you install a new app, read what permissions it is requesting. Ditch Google Maps, or at least minimise your use, especially on foot. Learn how to use the privacy settings on your phone to control which existing apps can use location services. The instructions are easy to find on the internet. But don’t use Google or Chrome, Google’s own browser, to find out how to avoid Google and Chrome. Instead, purchase a VPN service to encrypt your activity and cover your digital tracks. Use a free privacy browser app like DuckDuckGo that doesn’t track you.We cannot storm into Silicon Valley, Normannenstrasse-style, to demand our data back. But we can take some simple steps to take control of the Stasi in our pocket.

THE SEMMELWEIS REFLEX

"As an illustration of the enormous harm that is done to humanity by conceited men and women who think they own the Truth, I present to you the case of Dr. Ignaz Semmelweis.

In 1847, Dr. Semmelweis worked in the Vienna Hospital for women about to give birth. The Hospital's death rate for women in childbirth, caused by puerperal fever, was horrendous - so terrible that many women opted for giving birth at home, with a midwife, rather than facing the prospect of death at the Clinic where Dr. Semmelweis practiced.

The death rate for women in childbirth, at the Vienna Hospital, in April, 1847, was: 18.3%!

But something happened that changed Dr. Semmelweis's career: During an autopsy being performed upon the corpse of a recently deceased woman, the student doing the examination happened to turn to an accompanying doctor, and inadvertently poked him with his scalpel. A few days later, that doctor was dead, and all the symptoms pointed to puerperal fever, which was killing so many women.

Dr. Semmelweis surmised that some "cadaveric substance" had been transmitted to the deceased doctor, by the scalpel that broke his skin, and forthwith, he instituted the practice of washing the hands with a solution of chlorinated lime. (At this time, there was no knowledge at all, of the transmission of disease by germs.)

The result was, that the next month, in May 1847, the death rate never rose above 5%, and in following months was as low as 1%. Again, in 1848, the death rate never rose above 5%, and there were two months when there were no deaths at all.

Dr. Semmelweis organized a conference, to which he invited all the prestigious doctors of Vienna; his message to them was "Wash your hands!" His recommendation was taken as an insult, by the prestigious doctors!

Dr. Semmelweis's success saved the lives of countless women over the years, yet his recommendation of scrupulous cleanliness was studiously ignored by all doctors and in fact, all Academia; the record of his success in saving the lives of so many women, was disregarded. The priggish self-importance of those with accredited credentials caused their refusal to consider facts.

It is not hard to imagine the hatred that Dr. Semmelweis faced, for daring to suggest that cleanliness was of the highest importance, when dealing with women in labor. Because today, those on the side of the "status quo" in other fields, regularly refuse to deal with facts that disturb their preconceived ideas.

So great was the hatred, that he left Vienna and returned to his place of birth, Budapest, Hungary in 1850, to work in the same field, obstetrics. During the period 1851-1855, only eight women under his care died from childbed fever, out of 933 births (0.85%).

Eventually, as a result of the hatred he faced, and of the willful disregard of his successful experience in dealing with women giving birth, Semmelweis suffered a nervous breakdown, and his behavior became anti-social. On July 30, 1865, at the age of 47, he was lured to a visit to a Vienna insane asylum. Once there, he was detained. On the 15th of August - fifteen days later - he died of an infection from a wound on his hand. It is suspected that the wound was caused by a struggle on his part, to free himself from captivity in the insane asylum.

Wikepedia.org says: "The rejection of Semmelweis's empirical observations is often traced to belief perseverance, the psychological tendency of clinging to discredited beliefs. Also, some historians of science argue that resistance to path-breaking contributions of obscure scientists is common, and "constitutes the single most formidable block to scientific advances."

And further: "The so-called Semmelweis reflex - a metaphor for a certain type of human behavior characterized by reflex-like rejection of new knowledge because it contradicts entrenched norms, beliefs, or paradigms - is named after Semmelweis, whose ideas were ridiculed and rejected by his contemporaries".

"I'm sorry to say but to read the same argument over again is not very helpful.It promotes well-known resentement and prejudice ("The AfD wolf is at the door in east germany", september 9).What if you were to ask why citizens in the western part of Germany are voting AfD ? In the city of Deggendorf, Straubing and Others, they have gained as much as 18 per cent of the vote.

When asked, people will tell you that the politics of the ruling Christian Democratic Union, with Chancelor Angela Merkel, made them turn away from the party.Its refugee policy and many unsolved problems;its energy policy, with the premature exit from nuclear power;and early pension which gives those aged 63 full compensation, to mention a few, made them look for a new conservative home.

This is also why you find strong new wing within the CDU, called "WerteUnion", a union based on conservative values.The days when Christian social Union chief Franz Josef Strauss declared:"further to the right (of our party) you will only find the wall" are long gone.

Also of this should be also taken into account when you write about the motivation to vote for AfD in the eastern of germany.

STATESMEN OR POLITICIANS ?

When we consider how our fiscal policies in western countries are borrowing from the future at such alarming rates, it should not surprise us if our children’s children rise up to curse us. We are saddling them with an unpayable debt.
Somebody said well, “It is because of our own greed that we have become ungovernable.” We cannot balance the budget of this nation now. Why? Because politicians are scared that they will be voted out of office if they do not pander to the greed of the people. Now, this is not a popular thing to say. But, my friends, somebody has to say it.
This country is going to be destroyed by the twin evils of public greed and a false philanthropy on the part of politicians who are simply buying their reelection by taking money from one group and giving it to another.
The government is instituted for the purpose of administering justice. If you want to know what the government is supposed to do, read the 13th chapter of Romans where God explains what the purpose of government is. And that purpose is justice, not philanthropy. There is a great need for philanthropy and for benevolence but it should come from the private sector where it produces positive results and not from the government sector where it produces chaos and will inevitably bring this nation to destruction. Pray that God would raise up more statesmen who serve the people  instead of politicians who serve themselves.

Dopo la espulsione da Forza Italia del ligure Giovanni Toti, non voto piu' Forza Italia , ma rivoto LEGA NORD (era da 6 anni che non votavo piu' Lega Nord , anche grazie alla politica anti-euro ed anti-europea di Matteo Salvini) , che in concreto si dimostra essere un partito piu' liberale di Forza Italia:infatti alla radice della parola liberale c'e' il termine liberta'.

Ma se non si accetta che all'interno di Forza Italia ci siano dei successori a Silvio Berlusconi ed una discussione democratica, ecco che Forza Italia si delinea come un partito molto poco liberale e democratico, in concreto.

Il neo-premier britannico Boris Johnson, che fa lo scemo solo per attirare l'attenzione su di sé, e' laureato in lettere antiche (latino e Greco, inconsueti per un anglosassone e motivati da un autentica passione per la cultura vera).Non si dice nulla di nuovo affermando che la Gran Bretagna, nonostante il pasticcio della Brexit, e' e rimane una nazione democraticamente matura. Per merito del suo elettorato che premia , come nel caso di Johnson i piu' intelligenti e colti, in perfetta analogia con gli Stati Uniti il cui corpo elettorale premia (vedi Trump con tutti i suoi difetti) chi e' gia' emerso per conto suo. Perche' l'elettorato italiano premia gli ignoranti e gli imbecilli ?Posto che gli italiani, piaccia o no, anche per le carenze di una scuola andata a ramengo, sono fra i popoli piu' ignoranti della terra e posto che decenni di post-comunisti al potere e sindacalisti onnipotenti hanno attizzato l'invidia sociale, l'italiano medio prova invidia per chi e ' piu' bravo di lui e di conseguenza tende a votare per gli ignoranti come lui. Se arrivasse un altro Berlusconi, come ad esempio Urbano Cairo, i "poteri forti" precedentemente eletti, invidiosi quanto ignoranti, troverebbero il modo di farlo fuori.

Processo di eliminazione del nemico politico in Italia

In Italia il processo di eliminazione del nemico politico, da parte di mafia/ndrangheta/fascisti-maoisti o falsi liberali ha delle fasi , piu' o meno, sempre uguali;

A) Isolamento del nemico politico (licenziamento dal lavoro, espulsione dal partito politico etc etc) .

B) Diffamazione del nemico politico (con false accuse politiche di fatto o anche a livello legale, con cause estenuanti che durano anni o decenni).

C) Eliminazione fisica del nemico politico o con l'onore delle armi o in modo cammuffato (incidente stradale, incidente sul lavoro, falso suicidio etc etc).

D) Dopo qualche tempo intitolazione di una strada o di una biblioteca alla vittima della mafia o dei fascisti o maoisti.

E) Promozione dei parenti della vittima ad eroi della repubblica italiana con apparizioni in televisione , interviste sui giornali etc etc.

In questo modo , l'Italia si delinea, in modo chiaro ed inequivocabile, come Repubblica dei datteri o dittatura sudamericana.

Versamenti enasarco (persi) di agenti che hanno cessato anticipatamente l'attivita'

Il 31 maggio 2019, alle 15.23, ho telefonato a Milanow all'esperto di previdenza Dr Paolo Zani per parlare del caso dei versamenti enasarco da parte di agenti che hanno svolto l'attivita' per un periodo inferiore rispetto a quello previsto per maturare una rendita o pensione.

Infatti, attualmente, accade che parecchi agenti , come nel mio caso, dato che ho svolto l'attivita' di promotore finanziario con contratto di agenzia, dopo aver versato l'enasarco anche per parecchi anni, non possano recuperare le somme versate all'enasarco se non hanno maturato il minimo di anni necessari per una rendita o pensione.

Inoltre, oltre all'impossibilita' di riscattare i contributi versati in relazione ad una anticipata cessazione della attivita' di agente rispetto la data di maturazione della pensione enasarco, accade che non sia possibile nemmeno la totalizzazione dei contributi enasarco , ossia l'unificazione,con altri contributi, come per esempio i contributi INPS.

Quindi puo accadere, come e' accaduto nel mio caso, che i miei 22.000 euro circa, se non continuo nella attivita' di agente per il futuro con nuovi versamenti fino alla maturazione della pensione enasarco , siano totalmente perduti , senza alcuna possibilita' di riscatto.

Il Dr Paolo Zani mi ha dato ragione , rispetto la mia lamentela, e ha detto che la situazione e' semplicemente scandalosa.

Quindi l'attuale regolamentazione relativa all'enasarco e' per me incostituzionale e contraria all'art 2041 del Codice civile riguardo l'azione generale di arricchimento senza giusta causa.

Si deve anche considerare , che mio padre, per aver lavorato due soli anni in Inghilterra negli anni '50, beneficia di una rendita pensionistica per i contributi versati allo stato inglese.
Aggiungo inoltre che avevo gia' telefonato a Milanow nel 2108,avendo, per primo e da solo, in Italia,sollevato il problema dei versamenti enasarco incagliati, qualche settimana prima del 15/05/18, al Dr Paolo Zani su Milanow/Telelombardia quando poi in data 15/05/18 alle ore 12 circa, sulla TV LA7 di Enrico Mentana, copiando l'argomento dalla mia telefonata di qualche settimana prima, hanno trattato il problema in oggetto, intervistando tale Francesco Briganti che aveva , come agente di commercio, perso circa 41.000 euro e che si trovava tra l'altro in difficolta' economiche pesanti godendo solo di una piccola pensione.

COMPETENZA (secondo Giuseppe Prezzolini)

Per amministrare bene lo stato , bisogna aver amministrato bene delle proprieta', o delle aziende private.

Per avere della gente distaccata dai benefici delle aziende private, bisogna andare tra coloro che non sono competenti.

Il dilemma per lo stato moderno e' quello di servirsi di gente che puo' avere degli interessi personali ma e' competente, o di asini distaccati e supposti onesti.

Il solo effetto che la polemica democratica contro i ricchi al governo puo' produrre sara' quello di allontanare da esso un gran numero di competenti.

Infatti in una societa' di carattere mercantile e industriale, com'e' quella americana, la riprova dell'intelligenza, della volonta' e della competenza, sta ormai nella ricchezza , almeno nove volte su dieci.

Per l'attore in Italia esiste una diffusa subcultura reazionaria che la Lega ha risvegliato ed intercettato: “Dopo anni di crisi economica, buona parte degli italiani soffre di individualismo, provincialismo, opportunismo, servilismo e paura”. Le responsabilità? “Di una sinistra che ha rotto con la storia del movimento operaio”. Il Pd? “Irriformabile”. E per il futuro auspica una rivoluzione Costituzionale: “La nostra Carta va studiata fin dalle scuole materne”.

“Mi sento tendenzialmente un rivoluzionario, vorrei nel Paese una rivoluzione costituzionale: l'applicazione rigorosa della nostra Carta repubblicana, eccolo il mio programma politico”. Già attore, cantante, scrittore e uomo di sinistra, Moni Ovadia si autodefinisce giacobino ritenendo oggi, più che mai, sia l'ora delle scelte forti: “È necessario schierarsi per contrastare il peggior populismo”.

Riferendosi al tema dell'accoglienza, Matteo Salvini parla di “propaganda immigrazionista” della sinistra, per poi rivendicare la chiusura dei porti e il cattivismo nei confronti di chi fugge da guerre e carestie. Oltre, come di consueto, a tuonare contro rom, centri sociali e chiunque osi criticare i valori della famiglia tradizionale. Eppure nei sondaggi il suo consenso aumenta dimostrando che questa politica paga in termini elettorali. Moni Ovadia, cosa siamo diventati?

Dopo anni di crisi economica e strutturale nel Paese, una buona parte degli italiani soffre di una patologia che ha come effetti l'individualismo, il provincialismo, l'opportunismo, il servilismo e la paura. Sono gli stessi ingredienti che hanno caratterizzato il periodo fascista. Il Paese, d'altronde, non si è mai liberato dall'eredità mussoliniana.

Secondo lei l'Italia non ha mai fatto i conti col proprio passato e per tale motivo ci troviamo oggi con questo quadro politico?

Nel Dopoguerra Palmiro Togliatti – per carità, anche giustamente per evitare la guerra civile – ha sancito l'amnistia per i fascisti riabilitando coloro che si erano macchiati di reati o che avevano sottoscritto il manifesto della razza. Senza considerare che non abbiamo avuto un processo di Norimberga, eppure di crimini efferati ne abbiamo commessi tanti: dal genocidio della Cirenaica ai massacri in Etiopia e in ex Jugoslavia.

Mi scusi, per il presente non è eccessivo parlare di “nuovo fascismo”?

Non lo faccio, infatti. Il linguaggio di odio verso l'altro rientra nella consueta logica di guerra tra poveri: il penultimo che dà la colpa per il proprio malessere all'ultimo della scala sociale. È fuorviante utilizzare la categoria del nuovo fascismo in una società ormai moderna e dinamica che non accetterebbe mai una società regolata veramente secondo lo slogan “Dio, patria e famiglia”.

E allora di cosa dobbiamo parlare per spiegare queste pulsioni razzistoidi?

Nel Paese esiste una subcultura reazionaria – latente fin dai tempi del fascismo, questo sì – che Salvini è stato bravissimo ad intercettare e a risvegliare. Se allarghiamo lo sguardo all'Europa, vediamo altri esempi come l'ungherese Viktor Orban che è apertamente antisemita e, nello stesso tempo, stretto alleato del leader israeliano Netanyahu, colui che sta trasformando Israele in un fascismo religioso.

Ha idea di chi sono le responsabilità politiche?

Dalla Repubblica di Weimar in poi, le ondate reazionarie avvengono sempre dopo le debolezze e il trasformismo della sedicente sinistra. Più la sinistra riformista cerca di adattarsi alle logiche del neoliberismo più si indebolisce spianando la strada alle peggiori destre.

Colpa, quindi, della socialdemocrazia che ha abbandonato le ragioni della sinistra?

Assolutamente, è la madre delle responsabilità. Fin dagli Novanta, si è aperto al peggior revisionismo con l'equiparazione tra partigiani e repubblichini. In televisione i leader della sinistra dovevano subito, senza equivoci, ricordare Mussolini per quel che era: un criminale di guerra e un razzista. Hanno, invece, prestato il fianco a vergognose riabilitazioni. Lo sa Gianfranco Rotondi, il ministro democristiano del governo Berlusconi, cosa scrisse quando si ventilava l'ipotesi di inserire il reato di apologia del comunismo nel nostro ordinamento giuridico?

Cosa?

Che era contrario perché i comunisti avevano riportato in Italia la democrazia e la libertà con il sangue dei partigiani. Un vecchio democristiano ha avuto il coraggio di dire ciò che la sinistra, ormai da anni, si vergogna di affermare. I risultati di queste scellerate politiche li paghiamo oggi.

Su Renzi, già in passato, ha rivolto duri attacchi. È lui che ha dato il colpo di grazia alla sinistra in Italia?

In maniera scientifica, e consapevole, il Pd renziano ha tagliato completamente le radici con la storia del movimento operaio. Il suo scopo era distruggere ciò che esisteva di sinistra nel Paese. Ci è riuscito. Poi la scelta emblematica di cancellare l'articolo 18: la politica di Renzi è stata all'insegna della lotta ai diritti sociali.

Non pensa che con l'elezione di Zingaretti sia però stata archiviata la parentesi renziana?

Zingaretti è una brava persona ma non credo che Renzi sia fuori dai giochi. Il Pd temo sia ormai irriformabile. Inoltre mi chiedo: mentre Renzi si prendeva il partito con una campagna macroniana che non nulla aveva a che vedere con la sinistra, gli zingarettiani dov'erano? Si sono collusi con una strategia che guardava alla destra berlusconiana?

Chi rappresenterà l'alternativa al salvinismo?

Da un punto di vista meramente tattico, pur di arginare l'avanzata della Lega, auspico un'alleanza tra Pd e M5S. Non vedo altre soluzioni.

Il M5S non sembra proprio interessato a rompere l'alleanza di governo, anzi. Non vorrei che la sua sia un'ipotesi impossibile da realizzare...

Il M5S e Salvini sono due cose diverse: sono alleati obtorto collo, ciò che li tiene insieme è la fame di potere o, meglio, la poltrona. I Cinquestelle, oggi, non vogliono rompere ma nel M5S è ancora forte una componente di consensi che giunge dai settori progressisti. Quanto potranno reggere le politiche salviniane?

Se invece decidessero di non rompere il contratto con la Lega...

Rischiano di sparire perché l'elettore di destra che ha votato il M5S inizia a simpatizzare per Salvini e quello di sinistra, ormai deluso, guarda verso nuovi lidi o si orienta verso l'astensionismo.

In un discorso meno tattico e più a lungo termine, come opporsi a questo vento xenofobo?

Dobbiamo studiare, e studiare, per comprendere il mondo. La sinistra rincorre sempre le scadenze elettorali inventandosi strane alchimie e strategie perdenti. Bisogna ripartire, con pazienza, da nuove elaborazioni teoriche e senza l'ansia del voto alle porte.

Scomodando Gramsci, si deve vincere una nuova battaglia di egemonia culturale nel Paese?

In Italia abbiamo un immenso problema di degrado culturale: il 90 per cento dei cittadini non conosce nemmeno la Costituzione, poi ovvio che Salvini diventa premier. Per non parlare del livello infimo della nostra classe dirigente che sarebbe da azzerare: la congelerei quasi interamente per manifesta incapacità di esercitare il proprio ruolo. Abbiamo una questione, prima che politica, di tipo antropologico.

Dati il salvinismo imperante e la subcultura diffusa in vari strati della società, mi scusi Moni Ovadia, come se ne esce? Soltanto con lo studio?

Riusciremo ad arginare il salvinismo quando ci sarà una forza politica che avrà il coraggio di inserire come priorità programmatiche la formazione del cittadino e la cultura. Io sono per insegnare sia la Costituzione che la Carta dei diritti fondamentali dell'Uomo sin dalle materne!

Come andranno le prossime elezioni Europee? È preoccupato per i futuri scenari?

Neanche troppo, i sovranisti senza i soldi dell'Europa non riescono a mantenere le promesse elettorali. I loro programmi propagandistici sono fortemente vincolati alle decisioni dei banchieri di Maastricht. Ma dove vanno fuori dall'Europa? Non gli conviene. E se veramente lo facessero per tornare a pericolose svolte nazionalistiche, ci appelleremo agli insegnamenti di Gandhi: disobbedienza civile e resistenza non violenta.

White people are on the point of extinction. If you say anything about it, you are labeled a “white supremist.” Black lives matter, but not white lives.

We this, for example, in South Africa where white farmers are being massacred under the slogan “land or death” by blacks whose forebears arrived in South Africa after the forebears of the white farmers. The line is that the whites stole the blacks’ land and that Africa is black and, thereby, reserved for blacks. Whites are unwanted illegal immigrants.

If the roles were reversed and it was whites massacring blacks, the white media in the Western world would be shrill in its condemnation of the whites. As it is blacks massacring whites, there is not a peep. The only way you can learn about it is to read English language Russian Internet sites.

Only Russia has offered South African whites refuge. The US, Europe, and Canada are overflowing with non-white immigrants but have no room for white ones.

Whites are on the road to extinction not because of massacres by blacks, but because of their own tax, social, and immigration policies. In the US and throughout Europe high taxation has brought an end to single-earner families, such as the one that I, and my generation, grew up in. Wives have been forced out of the motherhood role into the earner mode. Consequently, the white birthrate has dropped. This process of destruction has been helped along the way by feminism and abortion on demand.

It is very difficult for a white person from one Western country to immigrate to another. An American who wishes to become, for example, a French citizen has to have a large income and a large French bank account and wait a long time. But a non-white can walk right in and take up residence without being evicted and expect to be supported by the French state. Except for Hungary, the same is true throughout the Western world.

How did something this topsy-turvey come about?

Identity Politics plays a major role. Identity Politics, now institutionalized in Western universities and school systems as black studies and women studies, teaches whites to be guilty for victimizing nonwhites and teaches nonwhites to hate whites for victimizing them. Instead of the former worker-capitalist class conflict, the conflict today is in racial and gender terms.

In Western countries where the white birthrate is collapsing and borders are open to nonwhite immigration, it is only a question of time before whites become a minority in their own country. As the nonwhite immigrants are not being assimilated, Western civilization itself is on the road to extinction.

Indeed, historical monuments are already being taken down because nonwhites find them “offensive.” For example, in the American South, monuments to Confederate soldiers are being taken down. That this is happening in Southern cities that still have Southern populations shows how entrenched an ideology Identity Politics has become.

We see the same power of Identity Politics in Europe. Hungary has rejected the European Union’s demand to open its borders to hordes of nonwhites from Africa and the Middle East. Against the claim that declining white European populations mean that the countries will not be able to sustain their social security systems without immigrants to support the tax base, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban offered to exempt mothers of four children from taxation. Orban’s preference for Hungarians over nonwhite immigrants provoked a Swedish government minister, Annika Strandhall, to equate Orban’s call for more Hungarian children to the white supremacy of 1930s Germany. It was “offensive” the Swedish minister declared and “reeked of the 1930s.” Moreover, the minister declared, it was an attack on feminism which had freed women from bearing children and given them independence. Throughout Europe, especially in Germany and Scandinavia, there is pressure on the police and media not to report rapes of white women and other crimes committed by nonwhite immigrants. We shouldn’t be surprised if Sweden passes a law making it a “hate crime” for a white woman to report her rape by a nonwhite.

The very identity and ethnic awareness of whites are under assault. The Swedish national TV broadcaster, SVT, has produced a propaganda film under the guise of being a documentary. The film claims that Sweden was originally a country populated by blacks. Except for Hungary, there is no European government in power that represents white citizens. Merkel, for example, represents immigrants, Europe, and Washington, but not Germans. Europeans do not even have enough of a survival consciousness to vote for nationalist parties that represent them. Marine Le Pen, who leads France’s nationalist party, stands for France, and for this she is reviled. The French government wants to send her to prison for posting images from newspapers of people who were beheaded by Muslims. In other words, to present a fact that is unfavorable to a “victim group” is a hate crime.

Instead of electing Le Pen, the suicidal French elected Macron who hates France. French nationalism, declares Macron, “is the betrayal of patriotism.” Macron continues: “Patriotism is the exact opposite of nationalism.” By putting “outselves first . . . we erase our nation’s moral values.” With his perversion of the meaning of patriotism, Macron subjects French men and women to the subjugation of both immigrants and the European Union. Although Merkel might be too careful to express it so clearly, her views are the same as Macron’s. Thus it is that the leaders of Europe’s most important countries have abandoned their people.

Western civilization is so far gone that Stephen Bannon, exiled from Washington and Breitbart News, has joined with others to form a new academy in Italy to train a school of “gladiators” capable of defending Western civilization from its internal enemies.

Throughout the West there are so many poisonous voices raised against the West that it will take hundreds of thousands of gladiators to stand against them.

It might be too late. Many decades ago Jean Raspail in his novel, The Camp of the Saints, described a French government and media that welcomed the Third World immgrants who overran France and extinguished the French nation. Today Macron speaks exactly like the political characters in the novel. The situation is so far gone in France that it is not an exaggeration to say that the French people should be put on the list of endangered species.

Germany should broker new talks about nuclear disarmament

The world is in danger of a nuclear conflagration one day. But it is unhelpful for Germans to pin the blame for that on Donald Trump. They should do something else instead.

By early February, short of a spectacular diplomatic breakthrough, the Trump administration will make good on its threat to withdraw from the INF Treaty. Signed in 1987 by Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev and concerned with “Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces,” it banned an entire class of missiles – those fired from the ground and flying between 500 and 5,500 kilometers. It thus promised a saner and somewhat safer world, especially for Germans, who during the Cold War feared being incinerated in a Soviet-American nuclear exchange. (“The shorter the range, the deader the Germans,” as Egon Bahr, a German geostrategist, once quipped.)

Unsurprisingly, Germans are thus aghast at Trump’s threat to rip up the treaty – in their view, the latest of many outrageous acts of sabotage of the so-called international order. In 2002, under George W. Bush, America already exited from another arms-control treaty. A third, the New Start Agreement, will expire in 2021 unless it is renewed. It is thus conceivable that the world will soon be back to the nightmare days of the Cuban Missile Crisis, when the nuclear powers wielded their arsenals with no contractual limitations whatsoever. And Trump would get much of the blame.

Not so fast. The world is indeed in great danger from nuclear weapons. But this is not primarily Trump’s fault. Nor would killing the INF Treaty automatically make the peril worse. It may even offer an opportunity to make the world better. Here is why.

First, Russia has been cheating on the INF Treaty. Who says so? First, the administration of Barack Obama did, then the Trump administration, and last month all of NATO. The Russians deny these charges. But they would, wouldn’t they? A treaty that is already breached is not worth saving.

Second, the INF Treaty said nothing about missiles launched from the air or sea, so that is where the threat would come from. Third, the INF Treaty only binds the US and Russia. It does not constrain China, which merrily builds just such missiles, and which the US and various of its Asian allies increasingly consider a bigger long-term threat than Russia. Nor does the treaty check the dozen or so other countries that have, or want, such arsenals, from reliable India and Israel to freakish North Korea or Iran.

The frightening truth is that the world long ago exited the stable horror of a dual-player game of “mutual assured destruction” (MAD) and entered the dystopia of a disorderly nuclear bazaar, with many players, possibly including lunatics. Hence the imperative for the major powers to come together in good faith to lift this curse on humanity.

Germany, as a middle power that this week took a seat on the UN Security Council, has a role to play in this. Having forsworn nukes, it can present itself as an honest broker for new talks among the big guys, which must at a minimum include America, China and Russia. It’s worth a try.
